End of Summer End of Summer Newsletter

Dear Friends,

As this summer and our government's term comes to a close, I wanted to thank you all for your support and for putting your faith in me to be your voice in Ottawa. It has been an absolute privilege to represent King-Vaughan these last four years and I cherish the relationships and friendships forged through our work together. This will be the last e-newsletter before the election is called and I look forward to reconnecting after the election should I have the privilege of continuing to serve you again.

Movie Night

Our Family Movie Night was a great opportunity to give back to the community and provide the hard-working parents of King-Vaughan the chance to enjoy some quality time with family and friends!

Making Housing More Affordable

Every Canadian deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. Starting September 2nd, our First-Time Homebuyer’s Incentive will make it easier to to buy your first home by reducing your mortgage by up to $286 each month without changing your down payment.

Enhancements at the Schomberg Community Hall

I am proud to be supporting the renovation of the Schomberg Community Hall with a $100,000 contribution from the Government of Canada, to install an elevator which will improve accessibility for all those who use this wonderful community space!

Sharing our Heritage in King

Delighted to have Minister Pablo Rodriguez at the King Heritage & Cultural Centre to see the recently renovated Kinghorn School Room and the King City Station. These historical buildings are representative of the rich heritage in King!

Talking Economic Development

Working with Mayor Bevilacqua and my municipal partners to deliver infrastructure and economic prosperity for the people of Vaughan.

Sitting Down with the Canadian Child Development Institute

Built on a legacy of more than 100 years, the Canadian Child Development Institute has been supporting youth and their families to overcome challenges in children’s mental health and family violence.

I was happy to sit down with them to discuss their initiatives and possible partnerships for the future.

Celebrating Ullambana, Festival of Gratitude

Honoured to be invited to the Ullambana celebration, Festival of Gratitude, at the Cam-Lo-Vuong Buddist Community Temple in Maple. The new temple is taking shape & due to open next spring. Thank you to everybody in attendance for your hospitality and friendship.

Celebrating Pakistan's Independence

It was an honour to be present with my colleaugues at the Consulate General's office to celebrate the 72nd Independence Day of Pakistan with members of the community.

Celebrating India's Independence

Thank you to WEConnect & all the volunteers for organizing a wonderful 72nd India Independence Day Flag Raising and celebration at Vaughan City Hall!

Supporting Legal Aid

I am proud of our government's commitment to a one-time legal aid top-up of nearly $26 million in Ontario for refugee and immigration casework. This comes on top of $49.6 million over three years for immigration and refugee legal aid announced in this year's federal budget.

10 Year Anniversary of the Maple Tornado

This month the community marked the 10 year anniversary of the tornado in Maple. The strength of our community spirit never ceases to amaze me as those who endured the storm shared their stories of resilience and neighbours helping neighbours.

Connecting with Canada Summer Jobs Students

Throughout the month I have had the opportunity to visit local students participating in the Canada Summer Jobs program. It is a program that I am especially proud of as it has created meaningful opportunities for over 850 youth in King-Vaughan since 2015, helping them to develop skills and gain experience that will help them with the first steps in their careers.

Building Infrastructure and Investing in Public Transit

One of the issues I hear most from frustrated residents is about traffic congestion. That is why our government is making transformative investments in public transit, like  enhanced service on the GO Transit Barrie line corridor, increased parking at King, Maple and Rutherford stations as well as support for York Region to build new public transportation networks and service extensions. We are making sure that public transit works for you.
