December 10, 2018

Maple, Ontario – December 9, 2018

Member of Parliament, Deb Schulte, today welcomed The Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister of Seniors to Vaughan, to highlight the government’s commitment to support seniors in the riding, and across the country, and to discuss opportunities to further improve the lives of seniors.

Minister Tassi and MP Schulte toured the Human Endeavour facility in Maple and participated in activities funded by the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP). The NHSP has provided nearly $600,000 to 14 local seniors clubs and organizations in King – Vaughan, over the past three years, to fight social isolation, promote wellness, and provide opportunities for cultural and youth exchanges.

The tour concluded at the Marino Centre in Maple with a roundtable discussion with local stakeholders.

“Seniors in the riding of King-Vaughan, and across Canada, have worked hard to help build our economy and our communities; they deserve a secure retirement. As the former Chair of the Liberal Seniors Caucus, I am committed to working with the Minister, my colleagues in Parliament, other levels of Government and stakeholders, to ensure that seniors have a good quality of life now and for years to come.”

– Deb Schulte, Member of Parliament for King-Vaughan and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Revenue

“When seniors are given the opportunity to be full participants in their communities, all of society benefits. I am pleased to see that programs funded by the New Horizons for Seniors, like the one provided by Human Endeavour, are bridging the generational gap, and encouraging seniors to share their experience with youth.”

– The Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister of Seniors

“To stay active, heathy and feel valued, seniors require meaningful cross-cultural activities and contribution to our society. Thanks to the current federal government’s increased funds for such activities through New Horizons for Seniors Program, Human Endeavour’s “Integrating Diverse Senior Groups” project, also led by seniors, is able to offers multi-cultural social inclusion opportunities in Vaughan, promoting and celebrating diversity.”
